Georgia’s default gives business owners a year-end surprise

Georgia State Seal

When a state doesn’t pay back the federal money it has borrowed for unemployment benefits, the employer gets to pick up the tab.

For Georgia employers, this will equate to an extra $63 per employee (assuming the employee made $7,000 or more).  Thus, a business with 20 employees will get a surprise equal to an additional tax of $1,260 when they file the annual Federal Unemployment form this coming January.
