The Electoral College – should we eliminate it?

We’re hearing a lot about the electoral college due to the upcoming election. Since the Founding Fathers demonstrated great wisdom in drafting the Constitution, it seems logical that they had some good reasons for setting up the Electoral College. But are these reasons still valid today?
