Unlucky 4 digit numbers

A pair of dice
Certain numbers can be unlucky for filing your tax return for 2012. Some of the 4 digits that are guaranteed to delay filing of your return until late February or even March are 3800, 4562, 5695 ,8582 to name just a few. We’re not getting these from a Chinese fortune cookie, but from the IRS website. Seems as though the fiscal-cliff legislation has caused any tax return with the following forms to be delayed for E-Filing purposes. Don’t despair! We can still get everything ready and be set to file the first day that IRS opens the door.
This is just one of the many reasons we discourage planning for large refunds. Another is this article in Forbes that suggests IRS might send you an IOU instead of a check for your tax refund. More to come on this subject later this month. The following list will help you determine if you’ve selected what IRS has determined to be an “unlucky” form number.

The following tax forms will be accepted by the IRS in late February or into March after updating forms and completing programming and testing of its processing systems.
