IRS, Star Trek, and Gilligan’s Island

This is an old post but in light of IRS’ new budget of 11.4 billion (an increase of 196 million) it is worth re-watching to be reminded of how they spend your money.

You’ve no doubt heard about the IRS closing for 5 days (May 24, June 14, July 5, July 22, and August 30) due to the sequester cuts. Rep. Charles Boustany, a sub-chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, just sent a letter to IRS Commissioner Steve Miller suggesting that, instead of furloughs, they not send selected employees to a Governmental conference in Las Vegas later this year.   One wonders how one of our successful business clients would handle such a difficult decision. Perhaps rather than cut off customer service, they might suggest that the IRS stop spending $70,000 plus on Star Trek and Gilligan’s Island videos for their training conferences. That might help. Since you paid for these IRS-produced parody videos, the least we can do is to post them for your viewing pleasure. Let us know if you think they were worth $70,000 of your hard-earned money. “Space: the final frontier
These are the voyagers of the Starship Enterprise Y
Its never-ending mission is to seek out new tax forms
To explore strange new regulations
To boldly go where no government employee has gone before.”
